E-Way Bill Registration and Generation
Register on the e-way bill portal and generate bills for goods movement, with Part A, Part B and vehicle updates.
Get Started Today
An e-way bill is an electronic document generated on the e-way bill portal that must accompany a movement of goods when the consignment value is above the limit notified by the government. Registration is for GST-registered suppliers, recipients and transporters who move goods by road, rail, air or ship. Our team enables your GSTIN on the portal, sets up users and, if needed, API access, and trains your staff to fill Part A and Part B correctly. We also explain the exemptions, validity rules and how to update vehicle details so goods are not detained in transit.
Who provides this service: our team of Chartered Accountants.

- Manufacturers and traders moving goods between states or within a state
- E-commerce sellers shipping from warehouses in different states
- Transport and logistics operators who generate bills on behalf of consignors
- Job workers receiving or returning goods for processing
- Businesses whose staff lack practice with the portal and its validations

- Guidance on validity, extension and vehicle changes during transit

How It Works
Confirm your role and need
We identify whether you move goods as a supplier, recipient or transporter, the usual routes and values, and any exemptions or state-level requirements that apply to your consignments.
Enable the GSTIN on the portal
The registration is completed on the e-way bill portal using your GSTIN and registered mobile number. A username and password are then created and secured for your authorised users.
Set up users and API access
If you run a billing system, we help request API access so bills can be generated from the invoice screen. Smaller businesses can continue using the web portal or the mobile app.
Practise Part A and Part B
Staff are shown how to enter Part A consignment details such as GSTIN, HSN, value and distance, and Part B transport details such as vehicle number, using live examples from your business.
Handle validity and vehicle changes
Rules on validity depending on distance, the process to extend it where permitted, and the steps for updating a vehicle number during transit are explained and written into your dispatch procedure.
Review and reconcile
After the first weeks, we sample generated bills against invoices to catch value, HSN or address errors, and compare the e-way bill data with your returns.
Documents Required
- GST registration certificate and portal access
- Mobile number and email linked with the GSTIN
- Tax invoice, bill of supply or delivery challan for each consignment
- HSN codes for the goods you move
- Transporter name and transporter ID, if goods move through a transporter
- Vehicle registration number and transport document details
- Distance and place of dispatch and delivery details
- Billing software details if API integration is planned
Timeline and Fees
Indicative timeline: Registration on the portal is usually completed within a day or two once your GSTIN details are in order. Training and software integration take longer and depend on the size of your dispatch operation.
Professional fee: The fee depends on the number of GSTINs and users, whether API integration is needed, and the amount of staff training required. We confirm the scope in writing before starting.
What Can Go Wrong if This Is Missed or Done Incorrectly
- Goods and vehicle can be detained during inspection if the bill is missing or invalid
- Penalty provisions under the GST law apply to movement without proper documents
- Wrong values or HSN codes on the bill can raise queries during transit and in later assessments
- A taxpayer who has not filed returns for the permitted period may be blocked from generating bills
Frequently Asked Questions
When is an e-way bill required?
It is generally required when goods are moved in a vehicle and the consignment value is above the amount notified by the government, subject to a list of exempt goods and special rules for certain situations. States may also notify their own limits for movement within the state, so check the rule for your route.
Who can generate an e-way bill?
A registered supplier, recipient or transporter can generate it. Where goods are handed to a transporter, the transporter can generate the bill using the details provided by the consignor. A person without a GST registration can also enrol on the portal in certain situations, such as being a transporter.
What are Part A and Part B of an e-way bill?
Part A holds the consignment details, such as the GSTIN of the parties, place of delivery, invoice number and value, and HSN code. Part B holds the transport details, mainly the vehicle number. The bill becomes usable for movement once both parts are complete.
How long is an e-way bill valid?
Validity depends on the distance to be covered and the type of cargo, with a fixed number of days for each distance slab. The rules also allow extension in certain circumstances. Refer to the current provisions on the portal, because the validity chart has been revised before.
Can I change the vehicle number after generating the bill?
Yes. Part B can be updated on the portal when the goods are shifted to another vehicle, or when the first vehicle breaks down, and the new details are recorded against the same bill. The update should be made before the new vehicle continues the journey, so keep records of the reason.
What happens if goods move without a valid e-way bill?
Officers can intercept the vehicle, detain the goods and vehicle, and proceed with penalty under the GST law. Releasing goods can be time-consuming and costly. The simplest protection is a firm rule that no consignment leaves without a valid bill checked against the invoice.
